Awkwafina has been described as an American performer and actor who started her career through clever raps that tackled the issues of sexuality and race with a an edgy, comical perspective. She then expanded into Hollywood. Nora Lum, born in Forest Hills Queens to Chinese and Korean immigrants, was her first musical experience. She performed on the trumpet. Later, she began traditional and hip-hop training. While in college, she took classes in writing and women's studies. Then, she even had some time learning Mandarin during her time in Beijing. After graduating, she began to pursue music as her main focus. My Vag, her track My Vag which was her response to the Mickey Avalon song My Dick, became a popular viral sensation via the Internet and was later featured on her first LP Yellow Ranger.
